Special Edition Print 2011
The 2011 SCBA Special Edition Print is the third edition in our ongoing print series. Each year SCBA invites and artist or artists from the local print and book arts community to interpret a conceptual idea – currently “Unbound” – and produce a limited run of 100 fine art prints, signed and editioned by the artist(s). These prints are available exclusively as a fundraiser for SCBA. The first 25 prints in the edition are reserved for future box sets, leaving only 75 available for sale to the public! Whether you are starting a collection, or adding to one,
this is a great way to purchase original artwork at an affordable price, all while supporting SCBA!
The 2011 edition is a collaborative effort designed and printed by Larry Calkins and David W. Simpson. The SCBA Board of Directors is thrilled to be working with these two Northwest artists, and we thank them both for lending their talents to SCBA.
These prints are expected to go quickly! The 2011 print by Larry Calkins & David W. Simpson is a collectible piece of contemporary northwest art, and makes the perfect gift for the art lover in you life and a great addition to your own collection!

About the Artists:
Larry Calkins is a self-taught artist whose creations expand across many mediums. His work is based on stories, the telling of real and imagined events of the past, present or future. His paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and hand-made books are creations born from metal, fabric, paper, paint, photographs, wax, tea and natural pigments. Larry is represented by G. Gibson Gallery in Seattle, along with American Primitive Gallery in New York, Gallery 500 in Philadelphia, the Rice/Polak Gallery in Massachusetts. Larry is a northwest native, born and raised in the logging community Harlan, Oregon. He currently lives and works in Issaquah with his wife, dogs, cats, chickens, mules and a donkey.
David W. Simpson is best known for his works on paper, including serigraph, relief prints, and large-scale cyanotypes. His latest body of work, Beach Structures, includes both 2 and 3 dimensional pieces inspired by weathered sticks washed ashore along the beaches of Puget Sound. David began this process years ago as a youth in Iowa, where he built toothpick sculptures and collected fallen limbs, wooden remains from old barns and construction sites to build various structures. His current constructed driftwood sculptures are stand-alone objects and subjects for large-scale cyanotypes prints. Both the sculptures and prints were exhibited at the Alki Bathhouse in the fall of 2010. David W. Simpson is represented by Lisa Harris Gallery in Seattle. He lives and works from his home in West Seattle.
