June 1: Paste Paper and Sekkazome with Yuka Petz
In this workshop, we will delve into surface
decoration and explore two different approaches to
creating beautiful papers. You will explore the joy of
adding and subtracting pigment in paste papers and
discover sekkazome, a Japanese fold and dye method
that results in beautiful kaleidoscopic patterns. At
the end of the workshop, you’ll come away with
stunning papers to use in your books and other
projects.
June 8: Marbling with Jenny Sapora
Marbling takes patience to master, but can be
rewarding for beginners, too. Watercolors floated on a
size of carrageenan can be combed, swirled, or teased
into finely detailed patterns. Possibilities for
design and image making are vast and various -- come
and de-mystify the process for yourself! We will
explore traditional patterns and experimental ones.
June 15: Kitchen Dyes for the Non-Toxic at Heart with Jenny Craig
Come experiment with natural dyes from common elements around the kitchen. We will discuss learning chemistry by trial and error, the fugitive and beautiful nature of natural dyes and the many glorious possibilities that come from things that stain.
