Creating Altered Books with Naomi Kasumi

Date: Saturday, August 28, 2010, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Location: 2100 Building (in Rainier Valley), 2100 24th Ave. S., Seattle, WA [map]
Cost: $125 (price dropped!)

With a spirit of experimentation and creative freedom, contemporary artists are altering books in entirely unexpected ways. Some cut, collage, or journal entries on the page. This class suggests stepping outside the box further and re-thinking what an altered book can be. This class allows you to explore and find new ways to express yourself and to use all kinds of art processes. There are no rules; however it is effective and convenient to know some basic tools, materials, and methods. The instructor discusses the principles of good page design. In this class, we will create altered books as 3-D objects and transform them from a traditionally bound used/found book to an art piece.
