Letterpress Printing Workshop

Dive into the world of letterpress printing using the extensive collection of historic type, cuts and ornaments in the Cornish College of the Arts Book Arts Studio. Instructor Dan Shafer will be your guides as you learn the fundamentals of letterpress printing and typesetting, and have the opportunity to print a simple one- or two-color project on either a flat-bed or platen letterpress. We will edition the projects so each participant will receive a full set, and there will be plenty of extras to give to your friends. This workshop is open to beginners or seasoned printers.

Instructor Bio: Dan Shafer is a graphic designer and artist based in Seattle. He teaches book arts classes at Cornish College of the Arts and runs Dandy Co, a graphic design studio. Dan worked in the Book Arts Program at Mills College in Oakland, CA. He has a BA in Studio art from Western Washington University and an MFA in Design from California College of the Arts.
