Historic Bindings Series
In this series, we will cover 4 historic bookbinding structures:
Week 1 (February 27) - Nag Hammadi
The Nag Hammadi is a limp leather tacketing structure found in Egypt.
Week 2 (March 6) - Ethiopian Style Binding
The Ethiopian Style Binding with its case (madhar) features wood boards, exposed sewing with a 'tunneling' attachment to boards.
Week 3 (March 13) - Vade Meccum
The Vade Meccum is also known as a physician's book. It is a small medieval book that hangs from the belt and each page folds out into a much larger page filled with images.
Week 4 (March 20) - German Longstitch
The German Longstitch features decorative sewing which is seen along spine edge, and it often has a closure device of some kind. Historically they were used for legal records.
